Mark Your Calenders: Date Set for Mckenzie River Two Fly Tournament

The dates for the fourth annual Mckenzie River Two Fly Tournament have been set so pencil it in on your calender, punch it into your Iphone or Blackberry, whatever . . . . Just make sure you are there and book your seat well in advance as many boats have already been filled. Call the shop at (541) 342-7005 to book your spot.

The kick-off to the Tournament will be held on Friday, September 23rd and the fishing portion of the tournament will take place on Saturday, September 24th. The Two Fly Tournament raises money for The McKenzie River Trust,  a great cause and just as importantly, nice fish make for some good times.

To date the tournament has raised over $13,000 for habitat restoration projects for cold water fish on Green Island near the confluence of the Mckenzie and Willamette.

The first year’s proceeds notched Crescent Lake on Green Island, providing additional back-channel habitat for salmonids and reducing warm water habitat that had been harboring invasive bass.

The proceeds from 2010 Tournament assisted with the removal of a levee and road along a side channel in the north portion of the Trust’s Green Island property on the confluence of the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers. The structure was built in the 1970’s and restricts natural floodplain activity during the flooding events. The removal of this structure and additional dirt mounds along the historic McKenzie channel completed the Trust’s levee removal actions in the north portion of the island.

Last year we funded a channel reconnection at the middle of Green Island (Willamette side channel to McKenzie channel). You can be sure that the proceeds from this years tournament will fund an equally beneficial project.

The cost of this years event is $350 per angler or $700 per boat. For more details feel free to give the shop a call at (541) 342 7005.
