River Restoration Volunteer Days with The Redsides Chapter of Trout Unlimited and McKenzie River Trust

Join The Redsides Chapter of Trout Unlimited and McKenzie River Trust for a weekend of McKenzie River restoration work! The work will be harvesting willows at Green Island, and then supporting replanting efforts at the South Fork McKenzie River restoration project.

This planting project will support post-restoration revegetation efforts. Willow has a strong root system that helps filter water, stabilize banks, and control erosion while providing shade and thicket to support nesting habitat and shelter for fish and wildlife. It is also an important food source for native pollinators, hummingbirds, and beavers. This past summer, restoration efforts reintroduced flowing water to hundreds of acres of historic floodplain, benefiting native plants and animals, including salmon, trout, lamprey, beavers, and others. Click here to learn more about MRT’s restoration work on the McKenzie River and tributaries.

No experience needed – tools, gloves, and guidance provided. Work will include bending, lifting, digging, using loppers, shovels, and mallets, and walking on slopes or uneven ground. We will have snacks and drinks to share. You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy along the water’s edge after we are done working. We look forward to seeing you out there!
