Extended body dries float exceptionally well, which makes them a great fit for the fast broken surface of the upper reaches of our local streams like the McKenzie and Willamette. Note to the reader: I recently fished this pattern in a size 10 hook with grey body to imitate a grey drake. I had it tied on just about all weekend while on the far upper reaches of the McKenzie during backpacking trip. The fly rides high and dry in even the fastest, most broken water, and looks incredible on the surface. The fish were in agreement, and plenty were fooled.
